Want to throw Darts?
If you are new to darts or San Francisco and interested in playing, new players and teams are welcome at all levels of play. There are several shoots every week open to non-league players as well as larger tournaments. Events are also listed in the Dart News section.
What is the SFDA? – The San Francisco Dart Association is comprised of about 15-20 host bars and about 150 players from all over the Bay Area. While most of our players are from San Francisco, some travel from as far away as Concord, Santa Rosa, and the Mid-Peninsula area.
What night is League Night? – The SFDA plays its matches on Wednesday nights. There are two seasons, Spring Season which begins mid-January and lasts through June; and Fall Season, which begins Mid-July, ending in Mid-December, depending upon playoff schedules.
How much does it cost? - For each person on the team, there is a $25 fee payable when you shoot your first game. (per season) There are currently 2 Seasons per year, Spring and Fall.
Where are the matches played? - SFDA matches are played in SFDA sponsor bars which are located throughout the city.
What is a league night like? - SFDA Matches start at 7:30pm and end around 11:30pm, depending upon pace of play. During this time, teams in the A League plays between nineteen and twenty-five games, teams in the B,C, and D Leagues play thirteen games. The SFDA plays both Cricket and ’01 games, (301, 501 and 701) in singles as well as doubles (and triples in the A League).
All teams play half their matches at home, and half of their matches “away” at other bars in their divisions. In addition, there are five “special events” in each league. These events are Cricket Singles, Cricket Doubles, 501 Singles, 501 Doubles, and Chicago Doubles, and are rotated around sponsor bars in the league.
Did anyone famous ever come from the SFDA? - Not that we know of, but presently we do have members who are constantly ranked in our ADO regional area (3-1), a few who are listed in the TOP 100 Men's ADO National Rankings List and one woman whos in the TOP 100 Woman's ADO National Rankings List and we also brag about that one person who actually took a leg off of Phil "The Power" Taylor in Canada a few years ago!
We've also sent a few players to lend technical support and shoot darts on the Nash Bridges TV Show many years ago!
What is my commitment?
—For individuals: If you are on a team you should plan on keeping your Wednesday evenings available. Understandably, there will be times you cannot make a match or two, however, this is a team activity, and repeated unavailability will have an effect on your teammates. Each player is responsible for paying $25 in dues per season. This entitles you to one “Team Drink” on the house at each regular match, as well as entry into the special events during the season where the winners receive trophies. This also includes our semi-annual awards banquet where a free buffet dinner is served and trophies from the preceding season are awarded.
—For sponsor bars: You will need to keep your darts area available to league players on the nights they’re scheduled to play at home. At the beginning of each season, a schedule is created that will outline what nights your team(s) will be playing in your bar. In addition, you may also be asked to host a “special event,” where you may have as many as twenty five darts players competing in a tournament. During matches, the home bar is to provide one round of “Team Drinks” on the house to players from both teams. Each sponsor bar is responsible for paying $125 in dues per season. If more than one team is sponsored, each additional team is $100. There are also discounts for bars that pay their dues early.
